报告人:Visakan Kadirkamanathan教授,University of Sheffield

邀请人:魏国亮 教授

报告人介绍:Visakan Kadirkamanathan was born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka and had his early education in Sri Lanka. Having spent his entire school career at St. Johns College, Jaffna, he attended the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka briefly before moving to the UK. As a Christ’s College Scholar, he graduated with a Class I Degree in Electrical and Information Sciences from the Engineering Department at Cambridge University, followed by a Ph.D. in Information Engineering from the same institution. For the latter, he was awarded the Lord Mountbatten Memorial Scholarship from Christ´s College. His first academic appointment was as Lecturer in the Department of Automatic Control & Systems Engineering at Sheffield in January 1993 following brief post-doctoral research positions at Cambridge and Surrey Universities. During the last few years, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer, then Reader and in 2007 to the position of Professor of Signal and Information Processing. From April 2009 to August 2014, he has had the privilege of being the Head of Department during which time this unique Department has seen a significant expansion. In July 2012 he assumed the role of Director of the Rolls-Royce supported University Technology Centre in Control and Systems Engineering. He is the Co-Editor of the International Journal of Systems Science.

报告内容The increased sophistication in sensing technologies and the desire to observe dynamics of the processes in many diverse applications have created the need for new estimation and identification algorithms. The main thrust of the presentation will focus on a number of applications ranging from engineering and healthcare to life and social sciences. The nature of the estimation problems are reflected in the selection of different classes of spatio-temporal models and the adoption of statistical signal processing methods. Each application will consist of the motivation for research, problem formulation, estimation method and results. These will be preceded by an introduction to the University of Sheffield, the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering as well as the Centre for Control, Monitoring and Systems Engineering housed within it. The presentation will conclude with some of the recent research directions.
